I LOVE pairing picture books together and watching students draw connections between characters, settings, themes, and life lessons. These four books teach beautiful academic AND personal growth lessons including perfectionism, risk-taking, and character change/growth.

The academic focus for this set is writing one-sentence main idea summaries and determining the topic vs. the theme.

I have students imagine their favorite feast AFTER it has been eaten (oh, the mess!). Then, we write great descriptive sentences using adjectives and vivid verbs to describe it.

THIS is the Thanksgiving math project I always hear rave reviews about from kids AND parents! 🍽️ When I created Thanksgiving Dinner Digits, I wanted a project that went beyond a typical “Plan Thanksgiving Dinner” assignment. So, I decided I would have students timing the meal prep, thawing the turkey, calculating serving sizes and costs, arranging seating at the dinner table, and more! Parents always comment that their kids finish with a newly found respect for the cost and thought behind Thanksgiving dinner and offer up more help prepping than ever before. 😍🧡

Major lesson success! 👏 👻 Today was day two of using our Halloween math logic puzzles, and my students couldn’t get started fast enough! They were so excited to continue solving trick or treat mysteries — even though these provide a solid challenge and enrichment opportunity, they were SO eager to work on it and experience that challenge. 🤩

✨ Quick vocab tip that I’ve been using for years! ✨ I always have a big stack of these labels printed out, and we write words on them as we add to our word collectors during novel studies.

🗣️ Students get a sticker and everyone (mostly other teachers, students outside of class, and their parents when they get home) asks them about their word all day long. They LOVE it, and it’s a great way for them to practice new vocab words!
