❄️ ⛅️ Winter (Solstice) is coming, and it’s the PERFECT topic of study right now! I selected three different picture books that present the information in very different ways — realistic fiction, informational, and through verse — and added in an informational text passage and video. ✨ It became the perfect lesson on compiling information from multiple sources! This anchor chart is an easy way to gather the info in one place before synthesizing it!

We took our GeomeTREE up a notch this year and mad

We took our GeomeTREE up a notch this year and made it a GeoMEtree! (Yeah… I’m super proud of that name. 😂😂) Each student made a geometric figure to hang AND a personalized disc to adorn it. Both projects took less than half an hour and brought us all so much joy! The tree will stay up all year long. ❤️

The ME adornments were super easy! I got plastic discs and letter beads from Michael’s, cut small strips of colored paper, and had students write things that make them special, things they love, etc. on each strip. The strips were then curled into the adornment. They chose their beads to spell their name and beaded them onto the string. Voila! Super simple, very cute, and they all loved it.

I have always included morphology in my instructio

I have always included morphology in my instruction, but it’s a MAJOR goal of mine this year. Anyone else?!💥 I took the week long Orton-Gillingham training and have been busily incorporating these skills while making it challenging and engaging. This activity was SO much fun and super easy to differentiate.

First, students had to read a paragraph with a bunch of missing un- and re- words (picture 1️⃣). We brainstormed words that might go in the blanks based on context clues and what we know about these specific prefixes.

Then, I gave them vocab cards with the meaning of the words. They created word sums (picture 2️⃣) for each and then began placing them into the story (picture 3️⃣).

Finally, they flipped them over to reveal the completed words and read the story (picture 4️⃣).

There are so many ways you can do this — if your students need more scaffolding, place the cards/definitions directly into the story instead of having them determine where they go!
