Teaching fractions in upper elementary can be overwhelming because there are SO MANY concepts to cover. Simplifying fractions, equivalent fractions, fractions on a number line, comparing fractions, improper fractions and mixed numbers, converting fractions to decimals, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing…. the list goes on and on!

I’ve found that meaningful, real world connections when teaching fractions makes for more lightbulb moments.

As I was working with my own kids this year, I decided the best way for us to hone in on our skills was to use real-world pictures. I found a ton of authentic fraction scenarios (okay, primarily food related, but kids love that!) for them to look at and consider. You can grab these fractions in the real world task cards for FREE! I have included both a digital and printable version so that they are ready for you no matter what this school year brings. They are perfect for review, a fraction practice of the day, math centers, homework, etc. Personally, I’m using two a day to review!

Fraction Puzzlers Challenge
