Tap the ❤️ if you love morning meeting. 😍 We’ve done this greeting/share a few times over the last several months, and it’s SO simple but has become one of my favorite ways to start our day! ☀️

Each student greets another student, then tosses the large ball to them while sharing the thing that is taking up the most space in their brain. Then, they toss the small Koosh and share something taking up just a little bit of space. Every voice is heard, every child is greeted, and of course, they love the Koosh balls!

I emphasize that the big thing can be something simple — whatever is most on your mind that day. It could be that they are having cheese pizza for lunch or that they have a big test coming up that they can’t stop thinking about. I have heard such a range, and it’s so eye opening and endearing. 🤗

Who is in the middle of state testing?! I just came across this draft from last year, and while I’m not proctoring this year, it’s still so true. 😂 AND all those steps go uncounted since smart watches aren’t allowed during proctoring. 😩😉

I recently saw a video where a teacher was joking that they thought they’d get so much done during state testing, but they kept getting interrupted… This was a totally foreign concept to me because we’ve NEVER been able to do anything other than count ceiling tiles (and pace, of course) while proctoring. What’s it like where you are?!

*Recorded off contract hours. No students were present. No tests were present. 😉

**Yes, that means I paced around my room doing lunges and calf raises and the Karma dance by myself. Yes, it probably looked as weird as you imagine.

🏆 One Chicken Nugget is the official winner!! 🏆 If you had asked me if a math book would win, I wouldn’t have guessed it, but kids in grades K-6 LOVED this book and voted it all the way through to the end! 👏

This book is a play on the classic math tale, “One Grain of Rice,” and tells the story of a monster who can’t get enough chicken nuggets. He takes on a challenge of exponential growth that had EVERY student giggling! 😜

I almost didn’t share this because it seems so s $I almost didn’t share this because it seems so simple, but my kids LOVED this activity, and I am always looking for ways to get kids talking about math — and it totally beat a worksheet! I put students into groups of 3 and had them complete their 8 tasks collaboratively. I chose cards with a variety of tasks and ways of looking at fractions. They had to talk about the task, process, and answer before writing it down. I heard SO many amazing conversations and so much math vocabulary being used! Then, students walked around and looked at other group’s tasks and placed a star on tasks they believed were correct and gave feedback to groups on sticky notes. Their job was not to make corrections, but simply offer suggestions or mathematical advice if they thought they spotted an error. Error Analysis ✅ Collaboration ✅ Fraction Skill Practice ✅ This would also be an amazing way to review for upcoming state tests! 👏 Comment with the word TASKS if you’d like me to send you some of my favorite task cards to use!$
