Dear Danielle Podcast Topics:

  • Rumors

We have designed these listening comprehension podcasts to be incredibly engaging while learning about character education skills and practicing critical reading comprehension skills.

Included in this resource:

  • 7 Recorded Podcasts (From 5 minutes to 8 minutes long each)
  • Transcripts and Annotation Tasks
  • Show Notes & Show Note Template
  • Reading Comprehension Tasks

How to use this resource:
There are seven parts to each podcast resource.

  • Podcast Recording: Encourage students to listen to the podcast both with and without the transcript. This helps build listening comprehension and fluency.
  • Podcast Transcript: A full written version of the podcast is included. Great for supporting readers, allowing for deeper analysis, and providing a reference for written tasks.
  • After-Listening Activities: Students complete annotation tasks and comprehension questions to deepen their understanding of the podcast content.
  • Blank Show Notes: This template helps students identify key sections and supporting details during or after listening. It’s an excellent tool for practicing paraphrasing and summarizing. I recommend allowing students to use their transcripts as a guide while completing their notes.
  • Completed Show Notes: These include timestamps and can be used for modeling, self-checking, or guiding small group discussions. You can also have students use these to locate text evidence in the transcript.
  • Character Education Definitions: These pages include definitions of growth mindset, friendship, honesty, siblings, collaboration, making good choices, and rumors. They also help students relate these scenarios to their own lives and give students tips on how to improve these social and emotional skills.
  • Comprehension Page: This page includes a variety of comprehension tasks that target specific reading and listening skills featured in the episode.

Accessing the Podcasts:
You have multiple options for accessing the videos and audio recordings.

  • Downloadable File: Inside the Zip folder, you will find both audio and video versions of the podcasts. Please note: this is a static video with one cover image throughout the podcast.
  • Google Drive: All files are accessible via Google Drive.  You can download them directly from the folders, save them to your Drive, or you can attach them to a Google Classroom assignment.
  • Website Access: All of the videos are also available via our website for easy viewing from any location with Internet Access.

While these meet a wide variety of reading standards, they also meet several speaking and listening standards.
