I can’t believe it, but it is almost time to start planning for the first week of school! This was a HUGE highlight for me and my students last year, and it’s super easy to implement! This year, I’m having them decorate a card with their word to display in the classroom as another visual reminder of their word! Here’s how it works:

💖 We read One Word for Kids, and each of my students determined what their word for the year would be. We talked about how their words can apply to situations both at home and at school and how they will serve as a guide for each student throughout the year.

As a reminder of their word, each student made a bracelet with their word. They LOVED this, and I loved seeing them wearing their bracelets ALL year as a reminder of their goal for the year.

Tap the ❤️ if you love morning meeting. 😍 We’ve done this greeting/share a few times over the last several months, and it’s SO simple but has become one of my favorite ways to start our day! ☀️

Each student greets another student, then tosses the large ball to them while sharing the thing that is taking up the most space in their brain. Then, they toss the small Koosh and share something taking up just a little bit of space. Every voice is heard, every child is greeted, and of course, they love the Koosh balls!

I emphasize that the big thing can be something simple — whatever is most on your mind that day. It could be that they are having cheese pizza for lunch or that they have a big test coming up that they can’t stop thinking about. I have heard such a range, and it’s so eye opening and endearing. 🤗

Who is in the middle of state testing?! I just came across this draft from last year, and while I’m not proctoring this year, it’s still so true. 😂 AND all those steps go uncounted since smart watches aren’t allowed during proctoring. 😩😉

I recently saw a video where a teacher was joking that they thought they’d get so much done during state testing, but they kept getting interrupted… This was a totally foreign concept to me because we’ve NEVER been able to do anything other than count ceiling tiles (and pace, of course) while proctoring. What’s it like where you are?!

*Recorded off contract hours. No students were present. No tests were present. 😉

**Yes, that means I paced around my room doing lunges and calf raises and the Karma dance by myself. Yes, it probably looked as weird as you imagine.

🏆 One Chicken Nugget is the official winner!! 🏆 If you had asked me if a math book would win, I wouldn’t have guessed it, but kids in grades K-6 LOVED this book and voted it all the way through to the end! 👏

This book is a play on the classic math tale, “One Grain of Rice,” and tells the story of a monster who can’t get enough chicken nuggets. He takes on a challenge of exponential growth that had EVERY student giggling! 😜
